I have had this iron getting on for 8 years. The iron does not need changing temperature for delicates, what i do is put them on a hanger and just vertical steam the garments, its brilliant for those woth pleats etc. The seal did eventually wear out so steam was escaping from the generator. I googled the model number of my iron and the part I needed and found a website that sold it. So my iron was soon up and running to its optium best again. The iron does not need deionised water. The generator where the water is stored needs rinsing out just with water after every 10 uses to get rid of the limescale if there is any and to prevent it clogging up with limescale. As i live in a hard water area i use bottled water to fill it. I hope to have this iron for many more years.

I purchased this steam iron 3 or 4 years ago. Before then I had only ever used the very simple steam irons which cost about £20. This steam iron works very well, is light, easy to use and produces great results. There are two big drawbacks. Firstly, the iron can only be filled with de-ionised water, otherwise it will get clogged up with scale (I use water filtered with a Brita filter, and have been okay, but it is a pain given that most of these irons will now take tap water). Secondly, there is large knob at the top of the iron which you have to unscrew to pour water in. This knob has a washer to keep the steam chamber sealed, and that washer, after 3 or 4 years use has now started to leak steam. I have been trying to find a replacement washer at various DIY stores for many months but with no success. Phillips were unable to supply me with a washer or the name of a place I could get one. The washer should cost about 50p, but if I can't find it soon I will have to throw away an otherwise satisfactory iron, which is a crying shame. Also note that modern steam irons no longer use a knob like this!
